PolyRead Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: November 7, 2026

We respect your privacy. PolyRead by Lesson Shuffle is a Chrome extension that reads selected text aloud in English, Spanish, or French and highlights each sentence and word as it is spoken.

Information We Collect

We do not collect, store, or share any personal information, browsing history, or usage data. PolyRead has no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, no advertising, and no server of its own. The extension does not send anything to Lesson Shuffle.

How the Extension Works

PolyRead runs on a page only after you click its toolbar icon, and it reads the text you choose to have read aloud. PolyRead does not save that text or send it anywhere.

Your settings (which languages are turned on, the voice chosen for each language, and your reading speed) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s extension storage. They stay on your device.

Voices and Online Speech Services

The voice that speaks the text comes from your browser or your device, not from PolyRead. By default, PolyRead picks the most natural-sounding voice available for each language. Some of these voices run online, for example Google’s voices in Chrome, which Voice Settings marks as needing internet. When an online voice is used, your browser sends the text being read to that voice provider so it can create the audio, and the provider’s own privacy policy applies. Lesson Shuffle does not receive that text.

To keep text on your device, turn on “Keep text on this Chromebook” in Voice Settings. PolyRead then uses only voices that run on the device. These voices work offline but may sound less natural.

Permissions

PolyRead asks for three browser permissions. “activeTab” lets it run on a page only after you click the toolbar icon. “scripting” lets it add the PolyRead toolbar and reading highlight to that page. “storage” lets it save your settings in your browser.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not share, sell, or disclose data to any third parties, because no user data is collected. The one thing to know is the online voices described above, where your browser, not PolyRead, sends the text being read to the voice provider.

Children’s Privacy

PolyRead does not collect or send any personal information to Lesson Shuffle, including from students. If a student uses an online voice, the text being read goes to that voice provider as described above. Schools that want to avoid this can turn on “Keep text on this Chromebook”.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the effective date above will change.
