What is it?

Lesson Shuffle Cards are a deck of instructional strategy cards that teachers can pick from to instantly mix up their lessons or plan ahead for more dynamic classroom experiences. Each card offers a unique, student-centered activity with clear objectives, difficulty levels (ranging from easy to challenging), and reflection prompts to evaluate its impact.Whether drawn on the spot to refresh a lesson or selected during the planning process for a more intentional approach, the cards promote critical thinking, collaboration, and engagement. By incorporating varying levels of complexity, teachers can set goals to challenge themselves and students, adapt their instruction, and energize their approach, all while keeping students actively involved and making learning fun.

About

The idea behind Lesson Shuffle was born out of my own teaching journey. As a middle school teacher, I often found myself either bored with my lesson delivery or discovering areas in my instruction that needed improvement. I started challenging myself in creative ways to keep both my students and myself energized. Some days, after a heavy lecture, I would set the goal of speaking minimally and instead focus on student collaboration. Other times, I would plan ahead, developing new strategies to connect with individual students or experiment with different activities to see how they resonated in the classroom.What started as an effort to make my own teaching more vibrant evolved into a series of personal instructional challenges that I set year after year. These challenges not only reinvigorated my teaching, but also transformed my classroom into a more collaborative, student-centered environment. As I saw the impact of these shifts, I began organizing them into concrete strategies, which ultimately led to the creation of Lesson Shuffle Cards.The cards allow teachers to introduce new challenges into their lessons, continuously adapt their instruction, and explore new approaches, all while keeping students actively involved and excited about learning.
